Joshua Ezra Burns (Ph.D., Yale University, 2010) specializes in Jewish civilization in classical antiquity and its reception in contemporary historical and theological research. His principal areas of academic interest include Jewish life and thought among the Greeks and Romans, the Hebrew Scriptures, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and early Jewish-Christian relations. Dr. Burns is the author of The Christian Schism in Jewish History and Jewish Memory (Cambridge University Press, 2016) and numerous articles in scholarly books, journals, and online databases. Though mostly an armchair archaeologist, he has participated in the excavation of several ancient sites in Israel and Italy. He is currently working on a monograph addressing early Jewish and Christian debates over the nature of Sabbath observance.
