Professor Narang studies international relations, with a focus on international security and conflict management, political violence, and international institutions. His current research examines the causes and consequences of humanitarian assistance as a peacebuilding strategy in conflict and post-conflict states, and separately, how international reputation matters in alliance politics. Other research explores the origins of the democratic peace and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. His research has been funded through the National Science Foundation and the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation at the University of California. Previously, he served as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, a Nonproliferation Policy Fellow at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, and as a research consultant to the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO).
