William Blattner (Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, 1989) is the author of Heidegger's "Being and Time:" A Reader's Guide (Continuum Books, 2006) and Heidegger's Temporal Idealism (Cambridge University of Press, 1999). His current research focuses on Heidegger's conceptions of authenticity and historicality, as well as the relation between Heidegger and Kant. Professor Blattner teaches Heidegger's early philosophy, Kant's first Critique, modern European philosophy, existentialism, as well as assorted introductory courses (incl. his most recent addition to the introductory philosophy line-up: Philosophy of Sport). Prof. Blattner received his Ph.D. with distinction from the University of Pittsburgh in 1989 (advised by the late John Haugeland), and his B.A. in philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1983. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, Cal.
