Jack Chen received his Ph.D. from the Department of Comparative Literature at Harvard University, his M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and his B.A. in Literature from Yale University. He was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and has also taught at Wellesley College.
Jack Chen has broad interests in the literature of the medieval period (that is, the period between the Han and the Song dynasties), with a particular focus on poetry, literary thought, and anecdotal writings.
