Robert Garfinkel is the Robert Cizik Endowed Professor at the Department of Operations Management and Information Systems at the School of Business at the University of Connecticut. He holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the Johns Hopkins University. His research interests are mainly in the application of operations research involving optimal decision making. His current work primarily focuses on health care operations, data security, and grid computing. He has also worked on a variety of other problems including: political districting; facility location; job scheduling; vehicle routing; imputation of erroneous data in surveys; mosaicking of photographic maps; shopbot design, recommender systems; and testing of digital microfluidic biochips. He has published in such journals as: Operations Research; Management Science; Journal on Computing; Information Systems Research; Mathematical Programming; and many others. He has also given invited seminars at a number of universities including: Aristotle University (Thessaloniki); Bilkent University (Ankara); Carnegie-Mellon; Clemson; Cornell; INSEAD (Fontainebleau); Johns Hopkins; London School of Economics; MIT; NYU; Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Barcelona); Princeton; Simon Bolivar University (Caracas); Technical University of Lisbon; University of Auckland; University of British Columbia; University of Buenos Aires; University of Iowa; University of Seville; Virginia Tech; and Yale. He has presented as well at a number of nonacademic institutions such as Bell Labs and Bellcore.
