aldayjover architecture and landscape is an internationally awarded firm founded in 1996 in an old seventeen century palace in the center of Barcelona. It is formed by two partners, Iñaki Alday and Margarita Jover, two team leader architects/landscape architects and several architects and landscape architects. The main works are about public facilities and public spaces or landscape interventions. They have also developed several projects of single family and social housing, as well as restorations of highly valued historical buildings and city centers. The last works recently finished are the Water Park for Zaragoza International Exhibition of 2008, several buildings for the same 2008 Exhibition (the Energy Centre and five pavilions), the Public Sports Centre of Delicias, the Gran Via Residence for Handicapped people, for the Catalan Government and a public social housing intervention in the historical part of the city of Zaragoza, composed by three buildings and the renovation of the heart of the district. All of them are public works commissioned as winners of ideas competitions. The main current works under construction are the Aranzadi Park and the Fundagro Foundation headquarters in the city of Pamplona, the urban integration of the new tramway of Zaragoza. The site works for Renewal of historic city centre public spaces of Ibiza will begin soon. aldayjover has designed lighting elements and urban furniture for the catalogues of iGuzzini, Escofet, Vilagrasa and mmcite, and are curators of the new line of urban furniture of iGuzzini. Among the main merit awards: the European Urban Public Space Prize (2002), the FAD Prize for City and Landscape (2009), two first Prizes of the Architects Association of Aragon Region (2001 and 2005), two times finalist of the Spanish Architecture Biennal (2005 and 2009, and one time finalist of the European Landscape Architecture Prize (2008), of the Iber-American Architecture Biennale (2004) and of the FAD Prize (2002). Lately, the Water Park has been nominated for the European Union Architecture Prize-Mies van der Rohe (2009). In the last three years, aldayjover architecture and landscape has designed and built 1.325.853 Sqm of public space, with a budget of 73,7 million € (101,3 mill $), and 31.647 Sqm of buildings, with a budget of 34,4 million € (47,16 mill $). The total executed budget during the last three years is 108,2 million € (148,32 mill $). In 2010 aldayjover got the certificates for the international regulations ISO 90001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental) and UNE 150301 (Ecodesign, Spanish). On September 2011, aldayjover architecture and landscape opened a new office in Charlottesville (Virginia), USA. Iñaki Alday, founder and principal with Margarita Jover of 'aldayjover arquitectura y paisaje', has begun his appointment in August 1, 2011, as the Elwood R. Quesada Professor of Architecture and Chair of the Department of Architecture. Previously, Iñaki Alday has been associate professor in the School of Architecture of Valles (Barcelona, Polytechnic University of Catalonia) as well as lecturer and visiting professor in several other universities. Both the academic appointment and the current practice of the office face the demand of a new attitude in front of the professional and academic challenges of the contemporary transformation. The role of Architecture and Architects, the interdisciplinary work and integration of scales, the new nontraditional programs as infrastructures and energy or the social and environmental ethics are some of the challenges to face with a global vision. With aldayjover aldayjover arquitectura y paisaje, Iñaki Alday and Margarita Jover are authors of outstanding landscape works as the Water Park (Zaragoza, 2008) and the Recovering of the Gallego River waterfronts (Zuera, 2001), urban public space works as the Integration of the new Tramway (Zaragoza, 2011-2012) and architecture as The Mill Cultural Centre (Utebo, 2004), the District Heating and Colling (Zaragoza, 2008) or the Center for the Interpretation of Agriculture (Pamplona 2012). The Aranzadi Park in Pamplona is in its last phase of construction and the pedestrian transformation of the historic city centre of Ibiza will start site works next Fall. Currentely, aldayjover is designing in Barcelona the extension of the Parc Guell with new connecting paths and the New Green Diagonal, after winning the competition for the Sagrera Parc together with RCR arquitectes y WEST8, a green space of 40 Ha (100 Acres) and 4 km long (2,5 miles) over the tracks of the railway. Among others, the office has been awarded with the European Urban Public Space Prize (2002), the FAD Prize of City and Landscape (2009), the Garcia Mercadal Prize (2001 and 2005), two Green Good Design (The Chicago Atheneum, 2011) and First Prize of Urban Integration (International Assoc for Public Transportation, 2012), and has been finalist of the European Landscape Biennale (2008), Iber-american Architecture Biennale (2004) and the Spanish Architecture Biennale (2005 and 2009), as well as nominated for the Mies van der Rohe European Prize (2009). The built work has been exhibited, among others, in the Deutches architekturmuseum (Frankfurt), Architekturzentrum Vienna (AzW), Cité de l’architecture (Paris), Venice Biennale 2012, Architecture Biennale of Rótterdam (NAI) 2004, X y VIII Architecture Biennales of Spain, IV Bienal de Arquitectura Latinoamericana and several Architects Associations and Schools of Architecture around Spain and the United States.
