Brian Osborn is trained as both an Architect and a Landscape Architect. He holds a Master of Architecture (MArch) from Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture in Brooklyn, New York, and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Brian’s research and creative work investigate the agency of digital design and production methods in the coupling of constructed form and biological systems. This agenda includes applications of digital sensing and data collection, computational design tactics, responsive environments, material research, and computer numerically controlled fabrication. Brian has taught design studio, construction and ecological technologies, digital design and fabrication, and drawing in departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design. Previously he has taught at Pratt Institute, Rutgers University, and Cal Poly. He is currently Assistant Professor in the Landscape Architecture Department at the University of Virginia. Brian brings 15 years of experience in practice to his teaching and research. He is the director of BOTH, a design firm that he founded in New York City in 2007 with partner Carmen Trudell. BOTH now operates from Charlottesville, Virginia to provide design services that align somewhere between the boundaries of Landscape and Architecture.
