Christopher Cannon is the author of The Making of Chaucer's English: A Study of Words (1998), The Grounds of English Literature (2004), and Middle English Literature: A Cultural History’ for Polity Press (2008). He is currently completing From Literacy to Literature, an account of the role that elementary schoolroom texts and practices played in producing and shaping the first great flowering of English literature in the fourteenth century.
