Bob Holzworth is an experimental atmospheric and space physicist who studies the influence of lightning and other phenomena on the upper atmosphere, ionosphere and magnetosphere. He is the Director of the World Wide Lightning Location Network, which located over 100 million lightning strokes around the globe in 2012.
His experimental programs involve the design, fabrication, integration and launch of high altitude balloons, NASA and Department of Defense rockets, and satellite payloads. He has an active satellite experiment to detect lightning in the ionosphere, and he is building two new rocket payloads to measure vector electric fields for a Naval Research Lab rocket experiment from Norway in 2015, to study plasma waves generated in dusty plasmas.
