A native of Germany and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Professor Carollo began her formal education at the Humboldt University Berlin. She received an M.A. in German and Slavic Studies from Duke University, where she also pursued doctoral studies in literature. Although her main professional interest lies in the history and theory of the German novella, she has a particular passion for the Faust theme in literature. Upon her Accreditation for the Teaching of Business German in 1993, she added the teaching of the Business German Course to the Department’s course offerings and has taught the course numerous times. She frequently renders translations of business documents, such as the Corporate Quality Control Handbook for BMW of North America. One of her favorite authors is Louis de Bernieres, whose novel Birds without Wings recently inspired her to embark on the study of the Turkish language. She anticipates a journey to Istanbul in the near future. In her leisure time, she enjoys flower gardening, playing chess, listening to jazz and classical music and taking long walks with her yellow lab, Emma.
