Edwin van Wijngaarden, Ph.D. is Chief of the Division of Epidemiology and Director of the Doctoral Program in Epidemiology. Dr. van Wijngaarden received an MSc in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University in The Netherlands, and a PhD in Epidemiology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. van Wijngaarden has extensive experience in managing and conducting epidemiologic studies and in academic leadership. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed manuscripts primarily in the areas of environmental and occupational health. For the past 10 years, his research has focused on the potential effects of exposure to metals and pesticides on nervous system outcomes in children and older adults.
