Dr. James Boynton is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, is the Pediatric Dentistry Division Head and Director the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program. Dr. Boynton received his dental degree and specialty training at the University of Michigan and has served on the faculty since 2005. Dr. Boynton is a board certified pediatric dentist with an active private practice including patient care at UM-Mott Children’s Hospital. He directs eight formal courses, including four pre-doctoral and four graduate-level pediatric dentistry courses and has given multiple presentations to local, national, and international audiences advocating for children’s oral health. Dr. Boynton’s research interests include pulp therapy for children and adolescents and education in pediatric dentistry. He has served nationally as a consultant/board examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a consultant/site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation, as a consultant to State agencies and private law, and currently serves on the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Council on Pre-doctoral Education and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Examination Committee.
