At the introductory level, Professor Linneman teaches Principles of Sociology. At the junior level, he teaches Social Statistics and a course called Social Movements and Social Change. At the senior level, he teaches a seminar on sexualities. He served as chair of the Sociology Department from 2006 to 2011. He currently serves as faculty advisor to Mosaic House, a living-learning community on campus. He is the author of Weathering Change: Gays and Lesbians, Christian Conservatives, and Everyday Hostilities, published by New York University Press. He is also the author of Social Statistics: Managing Data, Conducting Analyses, Presenting Results, published by Routledge. The second edition of this book will be released in 2014. He also has published in the journals Gender & Society, Sociological Perspectives, Men & Masculinities, Sexuality Research and Social Policy, American Journal of Sociology, and Contemporary Sociology. His most recent research article is entitled “Gender in Jeopardy! Intonation Variation on a Television Game Show,” in which he investigates the sociolinguistic phenomenon of uptalk.
