At the introductory level, Professor Linneman teaches Principles of Sociology. At the junior level, he teaches Social Statistics and a course called Social Movements and Social Change. At the senior level, he teaches a seminar on sexualities. He served as chair of the Sociology Department from 2006 to 2011. He currently serves as faculty advisor to Mosaic House, a living-learning community on campus. He is the author of Weathering Change: Gays and Lesbians, Christian Conservatives, and Everyday Hostilities, published by New York University Press. He is also the author of Social Statistics: Managing Data, Conducting Analyses, Presenting Results, published by Routledge. The second edition of this book will be released in 2014. He also has published in the journals Gender & Society, Sociological Perspectives, Men & Masculinities, Sexuality Research and Social Policy, American Journal of Sociology, and Contemporary Sociology. His most recent research article is entitled “Gender in Jeopardy! Intonation Variation on a Television Game Show,” in which he investigates the sociolinguistic phenomenon of uptalk. This research has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, The Boston Globe, Smithsonian Magazine, Health Magazine, Women’s Health, and numerous newspapers
