Jim Honeycutt grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. He developed a love of astronomy at the age of seven. After serving two years in the army at West Point, New York, he went to Georgia State University, where he earned his B.S. and M.A.T degrees in physics. Mr. Honeycutt taught astronomy, physics and A.P. Calculus at Newton and Eastside High School for thirty-two years. He was awarded the Star Teacher for Newton County twice and the NASA-NSTA Newmast Honors Teachers Award. He also was awarded the Principles of Technology Teacher of the Year and the prestigious National Science Teachers Association Star Award. Mr. Honeycutt is an avid astronomy teacher and is a very active member of the Atlanta Astronomy Club and the Astronomical League. He has held several workshops at Oxford College for the Atlanta Astronomy Club. He is a monthly columnist for the Covington News, writing about star gazing.
