I teach methodology. I have taught at the undergraduate level, Gerontological Nursing and Ethics. I also developed and teach Health in the context of culture, which is taught in India. In 2012, Dr. Tauben and I were awarded a three year Center of Excellence in Pain Education by the National Institute of Health Pain Consortium to enhance the teaching of pain management in all six UW health science schools. In 2013, I was awarded the UW School of Nursing Award for Excellence in Promoting Diversity through Teaching.
My program of research is based on the recognition that within the palliative care experience, the elements of pain and symptom management, advance care planning, and communications are key contributors to quality of life and dignified dying. Additionally, cultural importance is enhanced and care access disparities are increased at end-of-life. Disparities have been documented in the extant literature relating to pain and symptom management and advance care planning communication at end-of-life. Thus, my scholarly focus is to improve palliative care experience for diverse individuals and families within the global community.
