Sarah Gibson is a composer, pianist, conductor, and educator who has been called “a serious talent to watch” by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Her works have received recognition including the Victor Herbert ASCAP award, NFMC Marion Richter American Music Composition Award, and first place in the 2010 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest. Gibson has performed with and had compositions performed by soprano Lindsay Kesselman, members of eighth blackbird, the L.A. Composer’s Project What’s Next? Festival, USC Thornton Edge, the USC Thornton Symphony, Bang on a Can and at various venues across the United States and in Europe. In 2005, Sarah debuted with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Donald Runnicles. Most recently, Sarah co-founded a new music piano duo, HOCKET, with fellow pianist/composer Thomas Kotcheff. In 2014, HOCKET made their professional debut with Firebird Ensemble as part of their Outstanding Young Artists Initiative. HOCKET has since received a Presser Foundation Award to fund two upcoming commercial recordings of eight commissions to be premiered in the 2015/2016 season. Sarah received Bachelor of Music Degrees with high honors in Piano and Composition from Indiana University, a Masters of Music degree in Composition at the University of Southern California where she was named Outstanding Graduate, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Composition, also at USC, with minors in Collaborative Piano, Theory, and Conducting. Currently, she is on faculty teaching Theory and Aural Skills at USC and is also the Teaching Artist for the esteemed Composer Fellowship Program and Associate Composer Program with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Artistic Director, Andrew Norman.
