My scholarly interests are quite varied due to my formation in Comparative Literature. I have published articles on Charles Baudelaire and Thomas De Quincey, Paul Valéry, Tristan Tzara, André Breton, Walter Benjamin, Pierre Bourdieu, and French Thought in the United States. I spent a year in Berlin (1997-98) doing interviews in both former East and West Berlin, for a book project focused on cultural identities in transition after the German reunification. In 1999, due to my previous work on Thomas De Quincey and his influence on French 19th century authors, I developed an interest in the history of the French Revolution and its impact on 19th century French culture. This is still a work in progress. I am currently working on a book devoted to surrealism and politics..
