Michèle C. Magnin, PhD, has been a member of the department of Languages and Literatures since 1990. She is the director of the French section. She offers courses in literature, culture and civilization, women writers, advanced writing, and phonetics. She was director of the Faculty and Curriculum Diversity Program on campus for three years. A native Parisian, Magnin has established strong links with the French community in San Diego. She was president of the San Diego chapters of the American Association of Teachers of French, and the Alliance Française.
Magnin’s textbook Scén@rios, Pédagogies du virtuel, Atelier de lecture et d’écriture, published by Cengage in 2007, offers an interactive exploration of virtual reality. It includes web-based activities as well as traditional textual analyses upon which to model writing assignments. Her research focuses on creative writing, women writers and contemporary civilization. She has given workshops training French professors in the use of technology since 1995, throughout western United States, as well as in Chicago, Tokyo, Beijing, Brussels, Grenoble and Paris. Her articles have appeared in The French Review, Le Français dans le Monde, Dialogues et Cultures (FIPF), Women In French, Simulation & Gaming. Her present research, in collaboration with the Director and Head Curator of the Marguerite Durand Library in Paris, resulted in the online scholarly edition of a significant body of century-old heretofore unpublished texts by Marguerite Durand, feminist writer and journalist, founder of the daily newspaper, La Fronde, in Paris in 1897.
