Dr. Susan McClernon became the Applied Business/Health Systems Management faculty director in 2012. She brings extensive experience in health care operations, patient safety, information systems, and medical staff relations. Dr. McClernon is the president/CEO of Innovative Healthcare Leadership, LLC, a health care consulting firm founded in 2007. She has served in hospital administration for over 30 years, most recently as the chief operating officer of St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Previous appointments were COO/administrator of Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, TX; and vice president at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL. Other faculty service includes her current appointment as adjunct faculty at the College of St. Scholastica in the Health Information Management Division, where she leads its Strategic Business Planning Management course; and a former appointment in the University of Minnesota Executive MHA program at the University of MN Duluth, Labovitz School of Economics. Dr. McClernon has presented internationally on bioethics, and she has authored a chapter on strategic business planning in the textbook Health Information Management: Concepts, Principles, and Practice, 3rd ed. She holds a B.S. in health care management from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth; an M.A. in health care management from the University of Minnesota; and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, Division of Health Policy and Management.
