Prof. Afromowitz teaches courses in electricity & magnetism, integrated circuit fabrication, optical fiber technology, semiconductor photonics, and a seminar on professional issues (career choices, personal & corporate ethics, intellectual property, and globalization.) He holds twelve patents in the general area of sensors and microfabrication. As a consultant to industry, he has worked on optical fiber sensors for acceleration, pressure, temperature, electric field, and pH, physical measurements of gases, including flow, thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and viscosity. He also developed an optical fiber sensor for monitoring the curing of thermoset resins. Other research interests include infrared imaging, three-dimensional lithography and microfluidics. As an expert witness, he has supported patent litigation and analysis of medical instrumentation problems.
