I attended college, medical school, and graduate school at the University of Michigan. Then I did my internal medicine internship and residency at Duke University. I came to the University of Washington for an endocrinology fellowship and further postdoctoral work. I have been on the faculty of UW since the early 80s. My association with MEDEX began with guest lecturing in about 1987 or 1988, and I have been teaching at MEDEX ever since. In 1996, I joined the faculty of MEDEX and my percent FTE has increased to my current level of 90%. I teach in all four quarters, lecturing in A&P, Basic Science (a course I chair), Pathophysiology, Adult Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. I give a smattering of other non-course related lectures as well. I chair the master’s Capstone Project course. Altogether, I give 250-300 hours of lecture each year, most of those at MEDEX. Administratively, I am Senior Medical Director and serve as chair of the Student Progress Committee. Nationally, I served two terms on the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. I am now on the Board of Directors of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
