Description: Our lab is interested in the structures of transport proteins and in the mechanisms whereby transport proteins facilitate the movement of ions and solutes across cell membranes. Much of our work to date has concentrated on the mammalian P-type ATPases such as the ubiquitous Na,K-ATPase, the skeletal muscle Ca-ATPase, and gastric H,K-ATPase. More recently we have been investigating the sodium-coupled neurotransmitter transporters and an intestinal dipeptide transporter. Our work utilizes protein biochemical methods, electrophysiology, spectroscopy, including magnetic resonance, and molecular biological techniques.
