Nadine Hubbs is Associate Professor of Women's Studies and Music (Theory) and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Women's Studies Department. Her research focuses on popular and classical music, gender and sexuality studies, American culture, and critical class studies. Her book The Queer Composition of America's Sound was recognized by the Philip Brett Award of the American Musicological Society, Irving Lowens Award of the Society for American Music, and John Boswell Prize of the American Historical Association's Committee on Lesbian and Gay History. She has served on various national professional committees and boards and at Michigan is a founding co-director of the Lesbian-Gay-Queer Research Initiative (LGQRI) and past chair of the LGBTQ Graduate Certificate Program. Her current project examines country music in relation to gender, class, race, and sexuality.
