Professor Brian Bowen was appointed the College of Architecture’s first professor of practice in 2007. Prior to this since 2000, he supported the College’s Continuing Education Program with specific focus on courses in Managing A & E Practices and Contracting Companies. He retired in 2000 as president of Hanscomb Inc., an international construction consulting company active worldwide in managing construction projects and programs. He was trained in England as a quantity surveyor joining Hanscomb in 1960 in London, moving to Montreal in 1961 and then Atlanta in 1982. Professor Bowen was instrumental in forming the Construction History Society of America in 2007. He now chairs their Management Committee. Currently he is acting as Construction Historian to the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) to assist them in celebrating their centennial in 2018. He has spoken and written extensively on a wide range of construction industry issues, including course at the universities of McGill, Calgary, Reading, Pennsylvania State, Auburn and Ryerson..
