Dr. Boitnott is the coordinator of the Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program, she oversees the school’s Family Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner tracks. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice she has combined both her practice and research, focusing on behaviors contributing to childhood obesity. She is also engaged in interprofessional research throughout the University. She is working with School of Medicine (SOM) faculty to determine the clinical practice outcomes in collaborative standardized patient scenarios between SOM clerkship students and graduate family and pediatric nurse practitioner students. She is a Faculty Affiliate, for Youth-Nex, the Center to Promote Effective Youth Development at the UVA Curry School of Education. Her research through Youth-Nex explored the effect of family engagement on youth health parameters and engaged multidisciplinary collaboration with students from nursing, exercise physiology, nutrition and kinesiology. Dr. Boitnott received her BSN from James Madison University, master's degree (Family Nurse Practitioner) from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and DNP from the University of Virginia. She also completed a post-master’s certificate as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Virginia. Dr. Boitnott’s clinical practice began in pediatric critical care and continues today in pediatric primary and specialty care. She is a nurse practitioner in the Department of Pediatrics, Children’s Fitness Clinic at the University of Virginia. She cares for children who are overweight or obese and the many concurrent conditions that accompany this chronic illness. As a provider-educator, she has precepted and trained students from across grounds and around the Commonwealth, including undergraduate nursing students, FNP and PNP students, medical students and residents, DNP students, dietician interns and exercise physiology and kinesiology students.
