Professor Jessica Clarke’s research focuses on employment discrimination, family law, and law and sexuality. Her articles have been published in the Yale Law Journal, California Law Review, Duke Law Journal, Indiana Law Journal, and Oregon Law Review. In 2015, her article “Inferring Desire” won the Dukeminier Award, which recognizes the best legal scholarship on sexual orientation and gender identity published in the previous year. Professor Clarke teaches employment discrimination, civil procedure, and statutory interpretation. She joined the University of Minnesota faculty as an associate professor in June 2011, after spending two years as an Associate-in-Law at Columbia Law School. Professor Clarke received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2003 and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Whitman College in 2000. While in law school, she was a member of the Yale Journal of Law and Feminism. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Rosemary S. Pooler of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Honorable Shira A. Scheindlin of the Southern District of New York. She also worked as an associate in the New York office of Covington & Burling LLP.
