Amr Ahmed’s research focuses on modern Persian and Kurdish poetry and prosody, and Comparative Literature. He graduated in Kurdish literature from the University of Duhok (Iraqi Kurdistan), where he worked as a teaching and research assistant. Awarded a five-year fellowship by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he moved to France in 2002. There, he obtained a MA in Iranian Studies and a PhD (2009) in Comparative Literature from the University of the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris (France). Before coming to Harvard, he was a researcher at the Institute of Iranian Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna (2010-2015). In 2013, he was a visiting Assistant Professor of Persian Literature at the University of California in Los Angeles. His dissertation received the European Award for best PhD dissertation in Iranian Studies by the Societas Iranologica Europaea (2011). His monograph, La “Révolution littéraire,” étude de l’influence de la poésie française sur la modernisation des formes poétiques persanes au début du XXe siècle [“The Literary Revolution.” The Influence of French Poetry on the Modernization of Persian Poetic Forms in the Early 20th Century] (Austrian Academy of Sciences Press, 2012), is the recipient of the World Book Award of the Islamic Republic of Iran (2014).
