A critical component of a business education is providing students with meaningful, real-world opportunities, and the Department of Finance is a leader in doing just that. Finance students at the David Eccles School of Business might spend a Week on Wall Street working alongside some of the country’s premier venture capital firms and entrepreneurs, manage a real portfolio of exchange-listed stocks, bonds, and money market investments through the Student Investment Fund or the University Venture Fund, or network via the University of Utah Finance Club with an investment banker from Goldman Sachs. When students are in the classroom, however, we make sure it’s well worth their time. Our faculty are not only committed educators, they’re also seasoned professionals and internationally recognized researchers. When they’re not teaching courses on investment, valuation, corporate finance, real estate, banking, international finance, insurance, or CFA prep courses, they might be participating on federal investigative panels or as an expert witness in a high-profile financial scandal trial, or publishing their research in the Wall Street Journal or Forbes
