The History Undergraduate Group [HUG] is a vehicle for motivated students to articulate and respond to undergraduate needs by bringing relevant programming to the History Department. HUG’s signature event is the “Speed-Meet,” a fun and fast-paced opportunity for students to meet the faculty and learn about the courses they will be offering in the upcoming semester. The speed-meet is always scheduled several days in advance of registration for the next semester so students can make informed choices. HUG is as active as each year’s undergraduate cohort. Director of Undergraduate Studies Prof. Scott Sandage and Prof. Laurie Eisenberg are eager to work with students and make Department resources available to facilitate activities of interest to history undergraduates. In October 2011, HUG sent two undergraduate teams to "WorldQuest," an international current events and history trivia competition, hosted by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. Both teams acquitted themselves admirably, and students enjoyed mixing over dinner with students and young professionals from businesses and other universities in Pittsburgh.
