We've produced more than 200 full-length shows in our Department's history, plus short films, student showcases, and directing projects. Click on the menu on your left to see photos, artwork, and other details related to more than 100 of these productions. (If you're looking for a particular show, you can also type the name of the show into the "Search UAB Theatre" window above.) Our plays are cast entirely -- with very rare exceptions -- from the student body. In our auditions, equal consideration is given to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students who demonstrate exceptional ability are frequently allowed to design and even direct our main-season productions. Our extremely-popular annual Festival of Ten-Minute Plays, for example, is almost entirely written, designed, managed, performed, and directed by our students. asc-tenth-avenue-entrance_380You may notice our history is divided into two phases: 1971-1999 and 1999-present. That's because the fall of 1999 saw our Department's productions move permanently into the Sirote and Odess theatres at the Alys Robinson Stephens Center for the Performing Arts. Our first show in the Sirote Theatre was A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Karma Ibsen; our first show in the Odess Theatre was Orphans, directed by Will York.
