俄罗斯研究

专业描述

Russian Studies at Yale has long been one of the leading centers for the study of Russia in the United States and a meeting place for Americans and Russians in the pursuit of mutual understanding and constructive engagement. With the rapidly shifting dynamics in Russia and its near and far-abroad regions and new challenges to the US-Russia relationship, a team of Yale faculty received external funds from Renova to develop more robust programming. We will provide a lively and multi-faceted set of events to inform and engage student and faculty interests, drawing on the enduring and new lessons of Russia history, the deep wellspring of Russian culture flowing through film as well as the ideas of contemporary thinkers focused on Russia at this pivotal time. Beginning in Spring 2015, we offer three intersecting programs under the auspices of the European Studies Council of the MacMillan Center at Yale University. Initial funding has been provided by the MacMillan Center along with in-kind support from the European Studies Council and the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. The additional Renova funding is especially useful in enabling us to engage Russian colleagues with our faculty and students on campus and to round out the historic and contemporary elements of the programming. Our interdisciplinary Russian Studies Project launches in January 2015, and we hope to continue into future academic years. Our goal is to satisfy the growing interest in Russia on campus–and generate more–with a range of activities that will cover political, economic, social, cultural, and other matters. As part of the project, we are developing this website that we hope will become the central repository for information on Russian studies, including courses, research, events, and news, throughout the Yale community. We invite wide participation in the many programs and events we are planning for the spring semester. But we are seeking more ideas we should explore, as we think about the future of this project and the ways we can expand and tap into interest in Russia at Yale. We would also like to hear from faculty members who would like to have their courses, research, or other activities listed on the new website. To receive timely e-mail announcements of our events, grant competitions, and other Russian Studies news, please subscribe to the Russian-Studies email list.
