Mission To provide the opportunity to develop the foundation of a career in the administration of health services through a well-designed liberal education, understanding the role of health in achieving quality of life and the role of high quality health services in protecting and promoting health. Program Overview The Health Care Management & Policy Program provides a unique opportunity for students who are interested in preparing for careers in the management, organization, and policy of health care delivery systems and health services. The program is certified by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. Program Features A health administration track and a health policy analysis track MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and other organizations in the city provide experiential internship opportunities and a strong research base Students are assigned a professional preceptor during their studies Pre-med and study abroad options An opportunity to apply for early assurance to Georgetown University School of Medicine and Georgetown Law Certificates in International Health and Population Health and a minor in Health Promotion Top-notch faculty who occupy key positions in leading health services organizations and provide scholarly contributions to issues in health policy Writing in the Major Critical thinking and effective communication are essential to succeed in graduate school and to advance professionally. Students in the Department of Health Systems Administration are required to think critically and are provided opportunities to develop their critical thinking and communication skills in a variety of ways throughout their time in the program. From the start, students are challenged with the complexities of health care and are required to synthesize these issues in writing. Subsequent semesters delve deeper into the organization, management, financing, delivery, and politics of health care. They also require written reviews of the literature, data analysis, the development of positions, and ultimately the ability to define central questions. Written assignments include memoranda, policy briefs, annotated bibliographies, literature reviews, argumentative and persuasive essays, case study analyses and research papers. Formal presentations include leading seminars, formal lectures, and poster presentations. During the senior internship course, students complete an integrative research paper that is presented to their colleagues, faculty, and leaders in the field.
