The department of architecture offers two degrees: a NAAB accredited professional Master of Architecture, and a post-professional Master of Science in Architecture. There are over 300 students and 25 full-time faculty. As one of three departments in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University, the department is able to offer interdisciplinary collaborations preparing students for productive collaborations with the other design professions. The Master of Architecture program prepares students to enter the profession of architecture—a dynamic and vibrant career focused on making better our lives and the environment. Design is at the center of a professional and critical discourse reinforced by a broad general education. This program takes five years, if the student holds no bachelor's degree, or a minimum of three years, if the student does hold a bachelor's degree in any field. Kansas State University's professional program has consistently rated high in the Design Intelligence ratings of architecture schools. A number of students are enrolled in the research-based post-professional Master of Science degree program, intended primarily for those who already have professional degrees. There are three broad areas of emphasis in the program: Ecological and Sustainable Design, Environment Behavior and Place Studies, and Design Theory. The department participates in the college's Environmental Design and Planning Ph.D. program. Upon completion of your third year in the program, you may begin your file in the Internship Development Program (IDP).
