Retailing and Retail Operations

零售业与零售运营

专业描述

The Retailing program in the College of HRSM is different than similar programs across the nation in that it offers two distinct areas of focus — Retail Management and Fashion Merchandising. Both prepare you with business fundamentals such as accounting, economics, business law, communications and computer applications. Retail Management presents a broader scope of retail, where products and services can be be anything and everything, from culinary gadgets to fitness classes to monogrammed stationary. Fashion Merchandising, on the other hand, is dedicated to helping you develop a deeper understanding of everything fashion ⎯ from Fashion Product Analysis (RETL 368) to Fashion and the Law (RETL 530). Your internship experiences will also present you with an opportunity to work in a setting that that is specific to your passion. For Rachel Peterson, a 2013 RETL graduate with a Fashion Merchandising concentration, her internship with Nordstrom helped her find a supportive company culture that even helped her embrace mistakes. Rachel explains, "The biggest lessons are through your mistakes... getting better and knowing you're not going to do them again." Rachel must have done something right, because her internship led to a full-time job as an assistant buyer with Nordstrom after graduation. And now that she's working in Seattle for a leading fashion retailer, there's another retail business she can't escape ⎯ Starbucks. Her go-to drink? "Grande Caffè Americano with vanilla. It's sooooo good!"
