The Management and Organization Department teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of strategy, organization behavior, leadership, strategy formulation, organization design, developing teams, and motivating employees. Many of our faculty members teach you, the student, the importance of learning the management function. The management function in organizations is concerned with achieving effective performance in meeting the goals and objectives that keep the firm competitive and profitable. In carrying out their responsibilities, managers must utilize human resources to accomplish their goals. Managers are expected to balance the demands in the external environment with the resources and capability inside the organization to achieve a "strategic" fit between goals and accomplishment. These are the goals our faculty and department keep in mind when improving or creating new courses. Your faculty and doctoral students are involved in the study of these aspects of business administration. The department is comprised of more than 40 full and part-time faculty members, and 20 doctoral students. Their research interests cover a broad range of topics and disciplines, and they are dedicated to teaching students the skills they will need to succeed in management careers.
