Let me begin by welcoming you--our Alumni, our Students (current and prospective!), our Faculty, our Administrators, and Visitors to our Departmental website. The Mork Family Department was formed in 2005 by the merger of Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Materials Science and our growth has been supported by the generous gift of John Mork and his family. Like USC as a whole, our efforts are directed at three primary missions--excellence in research, teaching, and service--and many of our efforts address critical issues facing society today. Within the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science (MFD) faculty pursue research and teaching in diverse fields, including: energy, structural and functional materials, reaction engineering, nanotechnology, polymers, bioengineering, and advanced computing. Our faculty play important roles--among these are harnessing energy for the 21st century, synthesizing novel cell phone phosphors, implantable biomimetics and synthetic cells, and constructing new human therapies. As a chair, I am proud to be among this group of faculty and I appreciate the responsibility they have placed in me. I am also excited by the quality of our current and former students--their accomplishments and the prospect of their future achievements. We invite you to explore our three degree programs in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Materials Science. Our aims are simple--to improve society i) through the impact of our research, ii) by training the next generation of engineers, and iii) by our outreach to the community.
