The University of San Francisco offers an undergraduate art history/arts management major, which, unlike traditional programs, gives students the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience they need to become successful professionals in the art world. All majors also learn how to engage their arts management skills to address compelling civic concerns. Internships In addition to courses in art history, museum studies, design, and professional practice, the program offers two required internships: students may intern at a fine arts museum, a commercial gallery, or a non-profit arts organization. Students learn real-world arts management skills such as resume writing, interviewing; curating, exhibition design, preservation; educational program development and delivery; and working with artists, patrons, clients, and communities. Many who complete this degree find employment after graduation in regional and national arts organizations or continue their studies in graduate programs in art history, arts management, museum studies, and education. The San Francisco Advantage USF’s proximity to world-class museums, including the nearby de Young fine arts museum, offers exciting opportunities for study. Students also discover internship opportunities around the Bay Area in education, public programming, and development, among other areas.
