The Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts and Social Justice (PASJ) educates and inspires artist-activists through studio work, service-learning projects, and research seminars that connect academic theory to practice. We care as much about the creative process as the performance. The content of the choreography, the themes in our theater, the sounds of our music, the ways we collaborate with community members — it’s how we explore and suggest new approaches to important civic issues of our time. The Performing Arts and Social Justice major provides a robust toolkit for artists in different disciplines — dance, music, theater, stage design — to use their work to create a more humane and just world. Our artistic and scholastic activities are designed to expose students to diverse styles and artistic approaches and offer different modes of engagement for students to cultivate their own personal and artistic agency.
