Chemical Engineering

化学工程

专业描述

The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering offers B.S. degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Students majoring in Chemical Engineering have three options: Biochemical Engineering, focusing on biochemical processes; Bioengineering, focusing on the biomedical industry; or Chemical Engineering, emphasizing traditional chemical engineering issues. The degree program in Environmental Engineering allows students to choose a concentration in either air or water quality. Both programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Along with considerable of training in fundamental and applied science, undergraduate students majoring in Chemical Engineering learn how modern chemical engineering processes work and how they are used to produce today’s products. Students are prepared for entry into careers in a wide range of chemical engineering fields including petrochemical and petroleum refining, renewable energy, bioengineering, semiconductor manufacturing, and food processing. This comprehensive training also prepares students to pursue graduate education and research in chemical engineering at major research universities, or professional studies such as medicine or law. The Environmental Engineering program is also based upon a foundation of science and engineering fundamentals. The students are prepared for a wide array of professional opportunities in environmental protection and remediation. The major areas of expertise that students develop include air pollution processes and control, water quality management, water and wastewater treatment, and global environmental issues. Students majoring in Environmental Engineering are well positioned for careers in environmental engineering and admissions into top graduate programs to conduct advanced research in environmental and chemical engineering, or to pursue professions such as medicine and law. All undergraduate students receive personal attention throughout their academic careers from staff advisors or faculty mentors. Most junior and senior undergraduates participate in cutting-edge research activities in faculty labs, at one of the College’s interdisciplinary research centers, or in internships with industry or agencies. In addition, our students have access to numerous resources through the Bourns College of Engineering including academic assistance, study and time management workshops, career guidance, professional development training, membership in professional societies, and social activities.
