专业描述

The music education program develops teaching skills with a "hands-on" approach to music learning. We work closely with area schools and other arts organizations to help students expand their musicianship, confidence, and perspective. Through techniques classes, conducting, integrated fieldwork, and more, our students gain the experience to excel in a variety of music education settings. We build on the academically challenging, performance-based core curriculum to address individual needs and desires. Undergraduates may obtain a Bachelor of Music degree and California teaching credential within four years, including substantive fieldwork and student teaching. Graduate students expand on their music experiences to gain both depth and breadth in their musicianship, pedagogical approaches, and research skills. The graduate program includes thesis and seminar options, and may be done in conjunction with earning a California teaching credential.
