Music Management

音乐管理

专业描述

The University of the Pacific's Bachelor of Music degree program in Music Management allows students to combine intensive studies in music with an emphasis on the business and management aspects of the music and recording industry. The B.M. degree with an emphasis in Music Management prepares students for a wide variety of music business careers where their knowledge and understanding of music performance, repertoire, styles and history will be valuable assets. This may include music producer, arranger, recording engineer, sound designer, music programmer, journalist, editor or performer. Performers gain insight and knowledge into the inner workings of the music and arts industry to help them navigate and manager their own career as a developing artist. BM Music Management students must complete at least one experiential learning semester in the form of an industry internship. Past internships have been hosted by a variety of entertainment firms in California, New York or the student's home state. These internships provide a crucial part of our school's music management education melding practical application of theories learned in school with exposure to the working world. The internship experience helps a student explore his or her specific area of interest within the music business. Students planning to pursue a B.M. Music Management degree apply and audition for admission into the Conservatory and are interviewed by a faculty member of the Music Management program. Students must also meet all other general University standards for admission. Student interaction with working professionals and alumni of the program augment faculty teaching and are an integral part of the program's success. Regular visits with practitioners through weekly Music Industry Forum sessions, site visits to regional music business firms and an active student-run Music Management club enhances a student's development as a future music professional. The Music Management program collaborates with Pacific's Eberhardt School of Business in curriculum development and career advising. Students who may wish to pursue a career in the music industry without the intensive study of music in the Conservatory may opt to apply to the BS Music Industry Studies program in the Conservatory. Alternately, they may prefer to work towards a degree in Business with an emphasis in Arts and Entertainment Management. This major provides access to a number of Music Management courses as well as the full range of studies in the School of Business.
