The Department of Religious Studies is dedicated to the study of the world’s religions as historical and cultural phenomena. We examine various religious traditions, including their history, sacred texts, beliefs, rituals, and institutions. Our approach is interdisciplinary, drawing on disciplines such as anthropology, history, philosophy, and sociology. Because religious pluralism plays an important role in teaching the value of diversity, our department is committed to bringing a broad range of perspectives into the study of religion. We offer a wide variety of undergraduate courses ranging from large introductory classes to advanced seminars, as well as independent studies and an honors thesis program for qualified students.
