The Department of Classics offers courses in Greek and Latin languages and classical literature, as well as ancient history and other aspects of classical culture and life. The department acquaints students with the cultural achievements of the classical world that have served as the basis for Western society. The study of classical antiquity can serve as a strong base for a liberal arts education, and can be a rewarding supplement to any field, regardless of the student’s eventual career goals. A major or minor in classics can especially enrich programs in law, medicine, philosophy, religion and history.
