Ocean Engineering (OE) offers programs leading to the master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees. These interdisciplinary programs prepare engineering students for professional careers in ocean-related fields. They require students to interact with the ocean science community as well as the traditional engineering disciplines. In this context, students are exposed to the broad-based issues of working engineering problems in the ocean environment. They are trained to develop responsible solutions that will lead to sustainable activity and life in the ocean. The master of science in ocean engineering has an ocean mapping option. Students follow a more structured path through this program, which incorporates all aspects of hydrography as required by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and is approved by the IHO. A graduate certificate program in ocean mapping which meets the IHO criteria is available for those seeking advanced professional training.
