The purpose of our graduate program is to contribute to training the next generation of scholars in political science through our PhD. The large and intellectually diverse faculty who are members of the Graduate Faculty of Political Science offer students the opportunities to train in all the major fields of political science (American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, and Public Policy) using all the major research approaches (quantitative and qualitative) that characterize the discipline today. In addition to working with members of the Graduate Faculty of Political Science, students have the opportunity to study with faculty in other departments such as Sociology and Economics. BU has many centers specializing in regions such as Africa or Europe of interest to many of our PhD students, while several members of the Law School are members of the Graduate Faculty of Political Science. A consortium agreement allows BU students to take courses for credit at Boston College, Brandeis University, and Tufts University. Informal but lively networks link political scientists in the numerous schools in Boston and Cambridge, including Harvard and MIT, as well as the members of the consortium. Graduate students are active members of these networks.
