Princeton has one of the finest economics departments in the world. Economics is consistently one of the most popular concentrations (majors) on campus and attracts a diverse group of students with a broad range of interests. Princeton economics graduates go on to a variety of careers. About three-quarters begin working immediately after graduation, most commonly in the business world. Examples of the type of companies that often hire economics graduates are investment banking, consulting, and banking firms. Others go to graduate school in law, medicine, business, and economics. Students use the skills they develop through coursework when they write their junior independent papers and senior theses. In the junior year, each student is guided through the process of designing, researching, and writing a paper on a topic of his or her choice. The senior thesis provides students with the opportunity to tackle larger and more ambitious topics. Applied topics are the most common, and many make use of econometric techniques. **Almost all JIW-related events will meet on Mondays or Wednesdays from 3:00-4:20 p.m. Juniors must keep these time slots free of other commitments.**
