Welcome to the Department of History at the University of Cincinnati, where we strive for excellence in learning the past, reassessing the present, and developing skills for each student's future. Our 25 faculty members study and teach about the history of the world’s most pressing issues, from the War on Drugs, to Russia’s military aggression against its neighbors, to conflict between Muslims, Christians, and Jews. Our 200 undergraduate history majors and 40 Masters and PhD students delve deeply into these and countless other fascinating and important questions in our courses and in their own research projects. Every student who takes a History class at UC also learns essential career skills. We teach students how to research a wide range of sources, utilize tools of Digital Humanities, write and speak more clearly and effectively, and gather, sort, and report concisely on large amounts of information. All of these abilities are among the most sought-after today by prospective employers. Meanwhile, UC History professors regularly win the most prestigious fellowships and prizes in their fields of research, while remaining extremely devoted teachers.
