The Department of Engineering at TCU was established in 1991, under the auspices of the AddRan College of Arts and Sciences. Initial development activities occurred during the 1991-1992 academic year, and the inaugural freshman class was enrolled in the Fall 1992. The first four-year cycle of engineering courses was completed at the close of the 1995-1996 academic year, and seven seniors received the first Bachelor of Science degrees to be awarded in engineering at TCU. Since then we have grown to our current size of more than 200 students. Most of our graduates have positions in industry at companies such as Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopter, Jacobs Engineering & Schlumberger. Some of our graduates go directly to graduate school at universities including the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, and Georgia Tech. Research plays a major role in the professional life of our tenure-track faculty. Our research programs support our teaching mission and allow us to expose students to the process of science when they conduct research in our labs. Please see the individual faculty pages for more information about their research. Advising and mentoring students is a critical part of our mission. Faculty members have an open-door policy to students, and students feel comfortable meeting with faculty outside of designated office hours. We maintain small class sizes and expert significant student-faculty interaction outside of the classroom. TCU faculty members teach all of our engineering classes. They’re interested in you and your undergraduate education, and want to get to know you on a personal basis. If all this opportunity appeals to you, you should consider engineering at TCU.
