Dr. Krugman is the former president (2009) of the American Academy of Advertising. Dr. Krugman's research includes audiences and advertising, new media and health communication. In 2002, Dr. Krugman was presented with the "Outstanding Contribution to Research Award," by American Academy of Advertising. This award is designed to honor an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the discipline through a systematic and sustained program of published research. His study on audiences and advertising received the "1995 Outstanding Research Article Award," from theJournal of Advertising. In 1994, he received one of the inaugural "Outstanding Reviewer" awards by the Journal of Advertising for his contribution to the journal's scholarship. He was the recipient of the "1990 Research Award," from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine for a Journal of the American Medical Association article on adolescents and warnings in cigarette advertising. Dr. Krugman serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Advertising and has served on the editorial review board for the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media. He has received research funding from the American Cancer Society, National Association of Broadcasters and The James Cox Center for Media Management. Dr. Krugman is a senior co-author of Advertising: Its Role in Modern Marketing.
