Dr. Cowen joined the College of Dentistry in 1982. He is director of the Geriatric and Special Needs Dental Program and director of the Geriatric and Special Needs Postgraduate Certificate Program, as well as a clinical professor in the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry. Dr. Cowen treats private patients at the College of Dentistry, with an emphasis on geriatric, medically, physically and cognitively impaired adults. He is a fellow of the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry and a diplomate of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry.
Dr. Cowen participates in predoctoral clinical teaching in the Geriatric Mobile Dental Unit, the Geriatric and Special Needs Clinic, and postgraduate Geriatric and Special Needs Certificate Program. He also conducts seminars and lectures in geriatric dentistry for predoctoral, postdoctoral, and dental hygiene students, and provides child and dependent adult abuse mandatory training for mandatory reporters.
